Panama City Visit

My husband and I will be visiting Panama for 2 weeks in May and plan on spending 3 nights in Panama City. I would appreciate any suggestions on areas in the city to stay or not to stay. I was thinking of trying to stay in the Casco Viejo area but have heard mixed comments concerning safety especially at night there.

Any info would be appreciated
