The 2011 season at Guild Theatre begins (Panama City)

American playwright Neil Simon has written and produced some of the most successful and lucrative shows to run on Broadway. His comedy “God’s Favorite” will run in February at the Theatre Guild of Ancón, Panama’s long-standing English language playhouse.

The Theatre Guild of Ancón is starting its 61st season with the comedy “God´s Favorite”. Directed by Carlos Williams and produced by Gale Cellucci, the show will run from February 17 to 26, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays only at 8:00 p.m. There will also be a Sunday matinée on February 20 at 4:00 p.m.

“God´s Favorite” is a comedy written by Neil Simon, based on the Book of Job from the Bible. In the Old Testament, God tells the Devil that there is a man whose faith in Him is so great that he would not renounce God no matter how much suffering he is subjected to, and this man is Job.

In the play, Neil Simon´s character Joe Benjamin (JoB) is a present-day tycoon living in a Long Island mansion with his wife and three children. He is visited by a “Messenger” who tells him that the only way to save his business, his family and himself is by renouncing God. After a series of funny tragedies, Joe still refuses to renounce God; the “Messenger” admits defeat, yet manages to ask for a letter of recommendation.

The tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at the theater. For information or reservations write to Protected content or visit Protected content .
