Coming to Paris

My name is India I'm 23 and
I'm coming to paris for studies, along with my sister and her husband. It's kind of difficult finding an apartment and we really don't want to stay in a hotel or hostel too long and end up spending more money than we intend to .
So I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to get an apartment before coming out there if that's possible?
And also I'm really interested in meeting new people making new friends, it would be awesome to come out there and know a few people we can get together with and help us around etc.
