UPDATE TO COVID-19 MEASURES IN PARIS

On Sunday, 4 October Protected content , the French government has announced that Paris and the surrounding suburbs known as “La Petite Couronne“ (“the small crown”) i.e. the counties of Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Hauts-de-Seine have been placed on MAXIMUM ALERT (alerte maximale). They join the counties of Aix-Marseille and Guadeloupe.
The following restrictions will take effect in Paris and “La Petite Couronne” from Tuesday, 6 October, for the next 15 days, until 19 October:
**Bars and Social Activities**
(a) All bars are closed for at least 15 days (Note: Restaurants will be allowed to remain open on the condition that reinforced health protocols are respected including a limit of 6 people per table, a distance of at least 1.5 m between tables, and payment at table instead of at counters.)
(b) Sale and consumption of alcohol and the playing of music in public areas such as parks or on the banks of the Seine are prohibited from 10.00 pm.
(c) Parties and gatherings including student parties, festive and family events are prohibited in places with public access. (Note: Wedding ceremonies are allowed in city halls and places of worship, but wedding receptions are prohibited.)
(d) Visits to care homes, nursing homes and retirement homes (Ehpad) are permitted with appointments, with a maximum of two visitors.
(e) Gatherings are limited to 10 people in public places.
(f) Events with more than 1,000 attendees are prohibited.
**Commerce and Culture**
(g) Shops and retail centres must ensure that a space of 4 m2 per customer is available.
(h) Visual performance places such as cinemas, museums and theatres cannot receive more than 1,000 spectators or viewers, who must wear masks and maintain safety distancing throughout the performance or show.
**Sports**
(i) Dance and community halls, gyms sports centres, fitness clubs and swimming pools, are closed, except for school sports, sports clubs and swimming pools for children.
(j) Outdoor sport pitches and stadiums may remain open but must limit attendance to 1,000 people or 50% of capacity, whichever is larger.
**Education**
(k) University classrooms and lecture theatres are restricted to a 50% capacity.
