Native language that nobody's interested! (Paris)

Hello guys

I just would like to know if other expats experience the same. I am Brazilian, highly educated and looking for a job. Unfortunately it seems that in Europe (Portugal excluded for obvious reasons) Portuguese is not at all a sought after language. Neither it is in Switzerland where I lived, and Germany where I intend to live. A part from some rare roles in wealth management, there is really nothing.

For a communications person it makes things a little difficult. Not so many companies in Paris have English as the working language. It's a lot easier in Geneva, for example, to work in English. However, here again, most companies request native speakers.

My beautiful Brazilian Portuguese it not an important language at all.

What are your thoughts/experiences on that regarding your own language?
