Paris - Advice on where to live

Bonjour!

My wife and I just moved from Malaysia to Paris area for work (Plessis Robinson) and we are searching for an ideal location to live where we can experience the Parisian way of life. We are looking for something nice in the 7th, 6th, 14th, & 15th, but if we cant find anything suitable, we were thinking of expanding our search to the suburbs.

Are places like Issy-les-Mx, Chatillon, Vanves & Montrouge nice places to stay? Not sure if they would be as lively as Paris, but if you have any personal opinions, we would love to hear. Also, are these place generally safe at night, like if you have to walk on the streets alone?

As we are new to Paris, we are also eager to meet fellow expats and make new friends. Let us know if you want to get a drink, etc. Even better if we can practice French together!
