USA iPhone 5-- Where do I get a local SIM card? (Paris)

I will be arriving to CDG airport. My US carrier will be much too expensive to use. But I've heard that "just get a SIM card at the airport" is not realistic. How do I convert my USA phone to be used locally? Where should I get a SIM card and phone/data service at a reasonable cost?
