relocating (Penang)

Hello, I am thinking of relocating to Georgetown, this upcoming summer (just on my own, not in connection with work). Do you recommend I work with a relocation agent, or can I do well enough without one...? I certainly could use advice on what banks work best with the expatriate community, and how I can go about finding an apartment in a good building and in a good part of town.
