Novo Hamburgo? Good City? (Porto Alegre)

Hey guys.
Does anyone have any opinions on Novo Hamburgo as a city to live in for a young couple? Is it fun there? Is it safe? Is it easy or hard to get around? Is it a city of many different interesting/vibrant neighorhoods or it there not much to do outside of downtown? Any insights would be great. Thanks!
