Spread across Protected content . km., the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the crest of the Western Ghats that is recognized as one of the 12-biodiversity hotspots of the world. Bhimashankar was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in Protected content , primarily because it’s among the very few forests in India which support a thriving population of the endangered and elusive giant squirrel (Ratufa indica elphinstoni).

The Bhimashankar temple (From where the sanctuary gets its name), dates back to the 13th century and is one of the twelve ‘jyotirlingas’ (A shrine where the Hindu god, Lord Shiva, is worshipped in the form of the lingam or wand of light) in India.

06:15 am - Assemble at Hotel Malaka Spice in Lane 5
06:30 am - Depart for Bhimashankar. Breakfast en-route
10:00 am - Arrive in Bhimashankar and visit the temple followed by a jungle trek to ‘Gupt Bhimashankar’ (Unknown Bhimashankar) in search of the giant squirrel. Also visit the Nagphani Point (Highest point in Bhimashankar)
12:30 pm - Lunch at the Blue Mormon Resort
2:00 pm - Jungle trail to a waterfall!
4:30 pm Depart for Pune
