School system in India (Pune)

Hi Everyone,

I may be moving to Pune for a year and have 2 girls aged 8 and 6. i would like them to go to school in Pune but am having trouble working out how the school system works in India. In the UK, the govt would find us a school if we moved. In India do I need to approach the schools directly? What's the diffrence between International schools and English Medium Schools?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
