Cuenca Info & Salons/Spas in Quito?

Hi everyone:

My current housemate in Quito is moving to Cuenca and has some questions on the following in Cuenca:

1) Does anyone have any experience with swimming pools (for laps)?
2) Any hair salons that are good but not crazy expensive?
3) Any restaurant tips?
4) Spas for facials and mani/pedis?

Also, does anyone have recommendations for a hair salon (good, but ideally not crazy expensive) and a spa for facials in Quito?
