European electrodomesticals work in Brazil? (Rio de Janeiro)

Hello!

We will recieve a new colleague from Germany here in Brazil and he is thinking about to bring with him a washing machine from Germany (the washing machines there are cheaper and heat the water so that you can wash your clothes on higher temperatures...). Has anyone got experiences with bringing electrodomesticals from other - especially european - countries to Brazil? Will it work???
