PLEASE HELP ME LEARN THE TRUTH ABOUT BRAZIL (Rio de Janeiro)

Greetings everyone! My name is Kent and i'm new to this forum. The reason I joined is I wanted to network with people that have first hand knowledge about Brazil. I had considered relocating there but after speaking with people that have only VISITED I'm reconsidering. My friends question why would I want to relocate to a country that has very poor living conditions, rude people and low wages? I'm beginning to wonder myself so someone please tell me; whats it really like there? What type of salary can I expect as an English teacher? Is it true that there is no middle class (only very rich and very poor)? I'm asking in hopes of gaining information and hopefully forming some great friendships! Any information you can contribute will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!
