Non Compound Living for Women (Riyadh)

My husband is looking at taking a job in Riyadh. We just found out that it would not be compound living. The company has many properties and would be giving us one of them to live in. I am still unclear as to how this may work for me. I understand that I can not travel alone and amongst other things.
However, is my safety a concern if I am not living in a compound?
Thoughts, experiences and guidance appreciated.
