Free astronomical observations at Piazza Navona (Rome)

The free astronomical observations will continue until 30 September in attractive locations in the city.

Amateur astronomers and ordinary citizens of all ages of the stars curious are invited to participate , Monday, August 22 from 21 to 24 in Piazza Navona , the fourth appointment with " And the stars were shining " , the free astronomical observations with the naked eye and with a telescope .

Observations of " And the stars were shining " are largely inspired by the urban project of Pope Sixtus V who , according to some historical sources (rather controversial ) , intended to connect the major Roman basilicas reproducing on the city plan the design of the constellation Ursa Major , with St. Peter's Basilica in place by the North Star .

It will be up to the public " baptize" the new constellation on social networks , linking all'hashtag #Elucevanlestelle

An initiative promoted by Roma Capitale , Department of Cultural Growth - Superintendent Capitolina of Cultural Heritage developed by astronomers at the Planetarium with the supervision of the
