Is InterNations Network (my Contacts) useful? (Rome)

I already have Protected content (network) but not sure how to use the network. Most of members are basic, having them in my network doesn't allow to chat or even to message me back, they have to give me their e-mail to communicate, same as people out of network..Of course e-mails are very old fashion and full of commercials and work stuff..In addition often basics are reluctant to provide the e-mail address while on the contrary in the professional social network linkedin you always know your contacts' email...it looks there is no benefit from adding people the contacts list at all..
