Moving from the US to Rome - What to bring?

It is very likely that I would be moving from Boston, MA to Rome with my children at the beginning of September.

I'm told that life in Rome can be very expensive. Since the move would be paid by my employer I can bring quite a bit. Can anyone suggest things to bring to make a smooth transition?

I know about the difference in voltage so I do not plan on bringing any appliances from the US.
