transferring funds to uk for school fees (Rome)

Hi,
does anyone have experience of paying UK school fees from Italy?
We have sent a couple of instalments by simple online bank transfer with fees of approx Eur15 per transaction and heaven knows what rate they apply.. thinking there must be a cheaper way that everybody else knows about?
Have been looking at currency transfer brokers online, based in UK, which all advertise competitive exchange rates and no fees.. where do they make their money?
Any in particular to recommend or smallprint to watch out for?
Also worrying about the state of the euro over the next few years so would like some guarantee that school costs are not going to inflate out of all proportion
