Relocation from Netherlands to SF area (San Francisco)

Hi all, in a few months I'll be relocating from the Netherlands to the SF area. We are a family with 5 and looking for good elementary schools and a friendly neighborhood which has a more international feel to it. We are not bound to SF itself and can venture more out of the city on the basis that the schools are good (we can go private if necessary). What recommendations can you give us?
