life in Santa Cruz

My husband is going to be working in Santa Cruz. I am an American and my husband is Spanish. We currently live in Spain with our twin daughters. I was just wondering what is life like in Santa Cruz for a family. Are the schools good? Is it safe for children? Are there things to do? Thinking of moving the family there eventually but want to make sure it is a nice place to raise a family.
