Coming to Chile via US (Santiago de Chile)

Hey guys, new to this, but will give it a try. I'm considering coming to Santiago for my 3rd visit July 28-August 9. I've never been there in the winter. I've met a few people from my previous visits, but looking to expand my horizons. Any suggestions on where to stay, what to do, how to meet new fun people in Santiago? My Spanish isn't great, but with effort I can get around. I'd like to see the north, if it's feasible in such a short. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
