Driving licence (Santiago de Chile)
Hi:
I have been living in Santiago since Aug Protected content wanted to know more about the local regulations re obtaining a Chilean driving licence. I have a Canadian and an International Driving licence which I obtained in Canada before arriving here.
While I haven't driven in Chile yet, I have heard different stories about the validity of my Canadian/Int'l driving licences. Some say that the Can/Int'l licence is valid for only six months from the date of my first entry into Chile. Others tell me that I can take my Can/Int'l licence and get a Chilean DL without having to go through any driving tests etc. Yet others say that I need to go through the whole gambit of doing a written test, passing a medical exam and doing a road test.
I would appreciate if someone who has faced a similar situation recently can assist by clarifying what the actual requirements in Chile are for an expat for obtaining a local driver's licence.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
