FYI: new way of dialing local phones in RM (Santiago de Chile)

Hello everyone!

Just a little FYI in case you didn't know.

As of today, a new way of dialing local phone numbers in the Región Metropolitana (the region where Santiago is located, among other cities) is effective.

All emergency numbers, and Protected content 600 numbers remain the same.

All other numbers need an extra 2 dialed before the full 7-digit phone number.

Until yesterday, I could call someone (for example) at Protected content . Normal, typical, 7-digit phone number. Now, I need to add an extra 2 at the beginning.

If I want to call that example's number today from another local phone (land line) within the Región Metropolitana, I must add a 2.
Old dialing: Protected content
New dialing would be: Protected content .

If I'm calling from a cell phone (mobile), I need to use the area code Protected content the extra 2 and then the 7-digit number.
Old dialing: Protected content
New dialing would be: Protected content

If I'm calling from another region, I need to use the 3-digit carrier of my choice (XXX), then the area code (in case of RM, it's Protected content then 2+7digit number.
Old dialing: XXX - Protected content
New dialing would be: XXX - Protected content

The change is not complicated, but you need to be aware of it.
If you have tried calling anyone today and have gotten some kind of error message, it might be because you didn't use that extra 2.

You can see the official information here: Protected content

I hope this information is useful.
All the best,

Mariana
