Where to live in Santiago? (Santiago de Chile)

Hi guys!

I will be moving to Santiago in December and I am struggling a bit as to where to find a room to rent and which neighbourhood would be the best. I have heard that it is not advisable to live in the city centre as it is quite dangerous but I would love to hear some of your as a local opinions.
Any advice, help would be much appreciated.
