Birth Certificate for Spouse's Visa? (São Paulo)

Hi All!

We're applying for my husband's visa for Brazil and some agents state he needs a notarized copy of his birth certificate and others say it's only for children. The embassies haven't been very helpful in clarify this.

Can anyone clarify if they have applied with a marriage certificate only? We're really struggling to get his original birth certificate. I'm on a Temporary Work Permit.
