Problems with converting UK license to Brazilian (São Paulo)

Hi guys,

Has any international people had problems with abbreviations on their national driving licenses when converting to Brazilian equivalent?

I have had problems taking out a Brazilian license using my UK equivalent. Detran has this facility but the lady at Detran informed me that they could not recognise my license as it currently is because my second middle name is abbreviated. She told me that they could only accept licenses with full name (including all middle names) written out in full.

To get around this, the lady told me to get a letter from my consulate confirming the authenticity of the name on my license. I tried to get this letter, but my consulate informed me that it was not possible for them to do it.

I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and how they got around it?
