registration with Federal Police for foreigners (São Paulo)

hi,
i´d like to know if anyone has registered with the Federal Police and what are the documents required and any other info if possible.
my husband has a permanent visa and has to register with them within 30 days of arrival in Brazil but i cant find information anywhere of what he needs or how much it costs etc.
if anyone who has done it before and can help i´d be really grateful.
