Student Visas (São Paulo)

Hello all! Does anybody know about Australians obtaining a Student Visa studying Portuguese language for Foreigners?

I just went through the long application process to study at PUC, only to be told that Australians won't be granted the Student Visa for the course!
Any idea if MacKenzie or other universities are the same?

I desperately want to stay in Brasil (my partner is Brasileiro) but:
- I can't stay on a work Visa (my area of work requires I speak fluent Portugues... thus why I am trying to enrol in the course)
- I've used up all of my Tourist Visa

And I don't particularly want to have to resort to a shot-gun wedding either!
