Once a year Royal ceremony Jongmyo Daeje, May 3rd (Seoul)

A reenactment of the memorial ceremony for the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty will take place at Jongmyo Royal Shrine on Sunday. According to Confucian tradition, the royal family would perform elaborate rituals here five times each (once a year) in the form of Jongmyo Royal Shrine Ritual, which is said to be the oldest complete ceremony in the world. Jongmyo Jeryeak, the musical part of the ceremony, is produced by instruments, songs, and dances that originated over Protected content ago. The ceremony and music have been designated by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

The ceremony will begin with a royal procession from Gwanghwamun to Jongmyo starting at 11 AM. Some 30,000 spectators are expected to attend.
