Brexit update. (Seville)

UK nationals in Spain: Brexit update.

Elizabeth and I have today completed the application process for the new ID card for British citizens residents in Spain. Since we were already registered residents and Spanish taxpayers since early Protected content , it has been easy - it will be more difficult for those who haven't registered yet. The details are here:

Applicants should fillin the EX-23 form, which can be found here:

and should pay an application tax, for which they have to go here:

The tax can be paid online. The EX-23 form is very easy. We were worried about the surnames - Spain has a different system from most other countries, each person having two surnames, one from the father and one from the mother. The form includes fields for two surnames and for the given names of both parents, presumably because it can be used by applicants from Latin America. We left the fields for our parents' names and for our second surnames blank, and the form thus compiled wa accepted without any problem.

Applicants should make an appointment (cita previa) with their local Oficina de Extranjeria (or, if there isn't one, the relevant Police office), and take along: 1. the EX-23 form, filled in and signed, in two copies; 2. the receipt for the payment of the application tax; 3. one standard-size passport photogrph; 4. their existing resident card (the one with the NIE, foreigner's iD number); 5. their valid UK passport.

In the office, they will also be asked to provide a few fingerprints, and will have to hand in their resident card; they will be given a document whch can be used as a temporary resident card substitute, and has to be used to collect the new ID card. Collection is also by appointment, in the same office, at least one month from the date of application.
