Advice on living in Shanghai

Hi there,
I am new to this forum, my husband and our son have been offered a job in Shanghai. My husband has been to China including a very brief stay in Shanghai he didn't get a chance to see the city. We are both looking for some advice before we make the move there, one of them being a good place to live. We are looking for a area that is not too busy but has access to shops, parks, etc. Is there a family ex pat community active at the moment?

Would be grateful if any of you could give us some highs and lows of Shanghai.
