Lost China - A photographic exhibition (Shanghai)

The exhibition “Beyond Shanghai - Eugen Flegler’s photographic journeys from Protected content 1938” will be shown at the new Siemens Centre Protected content Lu, right at the Dalian Lu subway station). The opening will take place on September 21st at 6:30 p.m.

Eugen Flegler came to Shanghai in the Protected content as a young professor at Tongji University. There, he developed two passions simultaneously: A passion for China, and a passion for photography. Unlike most foreigners, he preferred rural China to the urban pandemonium of Shanghai. During three years, he went on numerous excursions through the waterworld of the Yangtze River delta and on some longer journeys through Southern China.
After the war, Flegler became professor at the famous Technical University in Aachen (RWTH) and eventually served as its dean. He has left behind Protected content pictures from his years in China. After seventy years, they are now returning to Shanghai and being exhibited for the first time.

The exposition has been curated by German author Stefan Schomann. All texts are in Chinese, German and English, the catalogue has been published by Doelling und Galitz Verlag.
