Shanghai without Language Skills

Hello! I am an American university student recently given an offer to intern with a consulting firm in Shanghai. While the opportunity aligns with my academic interests and I have lived and worked abroad in the past, I am concerned that my lack of Chinese language knowledge will severely inhibit me outside of the office. When I spent a week in Shanghai last summer, I was able to manage without knowing a word of Mandarin, but I was also travelling with a group of equally-clueless Americans. The internship itself will be entirely in English and I would try to learn survival-level language skills before joining in June but would it be possible to make this situation work? What would be the best way to find affordable housing without any Chinese language skills?
