Travel within China without passport (Shanghai)

Hi Guys

I have to apply for a visa for traveling to other country and at the same time I have some business meeting in other cities.

Does anyone know how could I get on a plane or a train in China without having my passport with me?

Is there any document I can request? People in my company doesn't know anything about that, beside when theirselves need to extend working permit and resident permit.
