Moving to Shenzhen with kids

We are a Dutch family with Protected content old and 1 7yr old kids. We like to come in contact with other families with children around the same ages. We have the opportunity to live/work in Shenzhen for about 2/3 yrs, but have no idea how the situation for the children will be with respect to (international) schools and social life.
My work (automotive) will be near Pingshan, should be located in north east direction.

It would be very helpful to hear from fellow expats about their experience with children in this age. Can they get around town by themselves (14yrs)?

What areas are a good place to live and close tp international schools? What schools can be recommended?

A lot of questions.. Hope someone will respond so we know a little more about what to expect should we make the step to move end of this year.
