Hosted by the Harvard University Association of Alumni in Singapore (HUAAS).

Description:
This talk is intended for a general audience.
Last year, Singapore experienced the most prolonged haze season to date, with signs pointing towards similar trends in the near future. This local problem raises complex interdisciplinary issues touching on international relations, economics, public health, public policy (building code) and meteorology. Learn about what to expect and what you can do in the face of this environmental issue.

Prof. Mikinori Kuwata of the Earth Observatory of Singapore will speak on the annual haze arising from deforestation in Indonesia. He will explain what is hazardous in the haze, and what is happening on the ground in Indonesia. He will examine the current situation in Indonesia in the context of other notable deforestation incidents, such as the Brazilian Amazon rainforest, and explore what lessons can be learned from such global examples.
