hotels / accomodation (Singapore)

I am an english citizen and will be flying to singapore in february for 3 weeks- maybe longer- to start networking to try and find a job in financial arena. I understand singapore is expensive for accomodation and am therefore wondering if anyone is aware of a reasonably priced hotel if such a thing exists in singapore. Also any recommendations for places to eat and drink would be greatly appreciated - particularly any good sports bars. Thanks in advance for any help, David
