Looking for flat/room in Singapore

I am moving to Singapore in the beginning of January next year and I am looking for somewhere to live. Since I am new to Singapore, I am not sure where to start looking for accommodation. Does anyone have any advice on good areas with affordable accommodation and more information on whether people share flats etc.. Would be very interested to know if anyone is looking for someone to share accommodation with.
