New to Singapore / New to Expat Life - From Canada

Hi Everyone!
I'm BRAND new to the expat life. I've been scouring travel blogs, expat blogs, Singapore blogs and now I'm looking to make friends by networking.
I'm looking for best practices for someone who is new to the country - aside from the local laws of do not spit/litter, hold business cards with both hands and do not loiter outside past 10PM in groups of more than 2. haha
I am also looking for someone to help with me Mandarin.
As much help as I can to ease this transition to Singapore from Canada would be appreciated.
