I would like to share this great initiative where expats can make a difference and help less privileged locals in Singapore.
Often we see sales ads for furnitures (most likely from our expat beloved local IKEA shop) on these boards. If you leave in a rush or want to make a contribution, you may want to consider the below association to donate your second hand furnitures.
Singapore is an amazing place for wealthy expats but some people are really struggling (especially locals who tend to earn less) and i guess that is the best goodbye present we could give back to the community after have enjoyed little income tax and the sunny weather and friendly folks here.
"Pass It On seeks to provide an efficient and effective means of distributing unwanted, albeit useful, household items to benefit the less privileged. The donated items will be made available to all Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) (eg. Family Service Centres and Senior Citizen Centres), with the ultimate aim to pass on these items to meet the needs of the less privileged within the care of these organisations. Anyone, within Singapore, can donate - as long as the item is of good working condition. With Pass It On, your used item can be given a new lease of life, and to better the life of someone else!
Pass It On hopes to achieve three objectives. It hopes to, firstly, encourage the re-utilisation of household items so as to discourage wastages. It also hopes to encourage greater participation of individuals in the care of the less privileged, within Singapore. In hand with the growing affluence of many individuals, there is a need to encourage a sense of giving to the less privileged.
