Singapore Cough

Seems to be an issue with people getting coughs? My son keeps getting recurring coughs and after speaking to others the same in their families. My wife now has one she cannot shake. I has issues living in Shanghai which was related to the air quality and why we moved to Singapore. Have others experienced the same. Some say it is related to allergies?
