Research invitation & apologies (Sofia)

Dear Expatriates in Sofia,

First, I would like to apologise for issuing the below message in private messages on InternNations; I must admit that I had not observed the regulations closely enough, and have now been advised to post a message here instead. I am very sorry if I have caused you inconvience.

Please allow me to present myself. My name is David Guttormsen, and I am a Norwegian national who currently works as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in International Business at the University of Exeter Business School, United Kingdom.

I specialise in cross-cultural management and expatriate research, and I would thus like to invite you to participate in my study (face-to-face interview) regarding the cross-cultural challenges that expatriates face in Bulgaria, and their motivations to relocate. As you are an expert on your own experiences, your contribution would be very valuable to my ongoing research project as well as enhancing the understanding more broadly concerning expatriation to Bulgaria, which may benefit the expatriate community, employers, as well as those individuals and firms which currently are considering to relocate to Bulgaria.

I will be located in Sofia (Bulgaria) between 2 – 17 May (inclusive) and would like to query if you would be willing to meet for an approximate 30 minute interview, at some stage during the aforesaid time-period?

All nationaliites are relevant for the study, and in particularly if you work in Human Resources in international companies. Your participation (as an individual and your organisational affiliation) can of course be anonymised in potential future publications emerging from my research.

I have previously conducted research on Norwegians/Nordic expatriates in Hong Kong, Brazil, and South-Korea. On this particular research project, I am collaborating with my colleague at Exeter, Dr Stanley Gyoshev, who is a Bulgarian national. We would of course be willing to offer you for free an Executive Report which summarises main findings in due course, as a small token for your valuable and kind participation.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your time and for being willing to consider my query, it is much appreciated! Please do not hesitate to ask any questions that you may have (my contact details can be found below).

Best Wishes,
Dave
