City tour: Political History Museum & Walking Tour (St. Petersburg)

Hey,

you might have seen all the galleries and castles, but maybe not yet much of the more recent history.
Sasha, who speaks very excellent English and is a knowledgeable young political scientist and tour guide, offers to take us on a 3hrs tour to discover parts of the communistic history of the city.

Here is the plan for the Political History Museum & Walking Tour:

This tour takes you to the Museum of Political History. Once a love nest of the famous ballerina Kshesinskaya, this charming style moderne house was occupied by the Bolsheviks in Protected content turned into their headquarters. In Protected content was made into the Museum of the Great October Socialist Revolution, and, with the fall of Communism, its collections were redesigned to reflect the Russian political history without the bias of propaganda.

There you will see such items of the Russian and Soviet history as:

- Stalin’s personal execution lists
- “Records on the bones” - forbidden rock music bootlegs on X-ray films
- Personal belongings of Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Zhukov and Gagarin
- and many more

You will learn how the Soviet system was shaped, how it degenerated into a bureaucratic dictatorship and what were the reasons for its imminent collapse in late Protected content . The museum’s exhibition comprehensively covers all aspects of life in the Soviet Union, providing a unique insight into what happened behind the Iron Curtain.

After the museum tour we'll visit several places connected with Russia's political history, like the House of Convicts, Solovki Stone, Monument to Alexander III, the Field of Mars, walk around the Saviour on the Spilt Blood Church and end the tour at Gostiny Dvor/Kanal Griboedova metro station.
