work placement or stick to job search? (Stockholm)

Hej! Wondering if anyone has an opinion on this! Am at Sfi for now, D course, and wonder if I should look for a work placement instead of a job to start with? Many of my fellow expatriates have done this or are doing this but it does not seem to lead to any jobs in the end.
Should I just forget about this and just keep trying with international companies I can find in Stockholm? At least, I would not have not to wait to be fluent in Swedish first.
I am French but lived in the UK for 20 years so an English work environment would not be a problem. I worked in It, selling software and admin in the U.K. Vad ska jag göra?! Any advice greatly appreciated!:-D
