Stuttgart Newcomer -- Bring my dog or not?

I will be moving to Stuttgart on my own in July for a 6-months work assignment. The thought of moving to a new country by myself is a bit nerve wrecking. Should I bring my 15 lbs dog with me? I would love his company but at the same time, I worry that he'll be lonely with me at work and possibly traveling sometimes. I have a dog sitter in the US for when I'm out of town. I'm not sure if this is common in Germany? Also I've heard dogs are allowed in many restaurants ... but not sure if this is practical. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
