Moving to Sydney :)

Hi we are moving to Sydney in Sept from London and Joburg. So excited! We'd appreciate any tips on places to stay (both temporarily for a few weeks and longer term). We're thinking of Surry Hills or Darlinghurst. Which is better for homey coffee shops, friendly restaurants, chilled bars and scruffy secondhand bookshops? And where are the nice streets to start hunting? Thx
