pet importation from China (Sydney)

Hi Everyone - Hope you can help/advise.
We have a possible move to Australia mid Protected content have 2 cats which we would like to bring with us. We are currently living in China and have read the regulations of import to Australia and see that we cannot bring them in directly from there. Anyone who has made this move and willing to share their experiences and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We are looking at moving them via Hong Kong?
