Visiting Sydney

My wife and I are on a 2 year round the world trip and will be in Australia in January, Protected content approximately 6 months. We plan to use Sydney as our home base. Any suggestions on nice, conveniently located places to live in the greater Sydney area? Looking for a Protected content furnished apartment. Plan to use public transportation and not have a car.
