Coming to Israel (Tel Aviv)

Hi all, I'm booked a flight to Israel on the 31st and really need a place to stay. I've been looking on Craig's list and I'm pretty sure my budget isn't going to cut it in Tel Aviv. Can anyone suggest a place near there that I can easily get to with public transport and/or a place to stay. I only budget $400 US a month for accommodations. I guess I should have looked closer before deciding on Israel! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I pretty much need a bed, bath, and wi fi and I have to be accessible to transportation.

Thanks. I could also use a friend or two. I don't know a soul in town and hope to stay a month.
